GRAND THEFT AUTO - game

Game Paper

I picked the game Grand Theft Auto to write about because of the true meaning of this game and the second face that emerges from people that play this game. The whole purpose of this game is to do what ever you want in society from shopping to killing and one can express their mind in an avatar form. One can choose to live the way they want in this whether it is a life of peace or a life of danger and crime. One can even choose to be a cab driver and drive people around the digital town for cash/points in the game. The digital city is created to simulate towns like Los Angeles and New York and replicates the gang life and types and the game drops you into the middle of it all and in order to eat and survive is to rob and steal, or make money legal legit ways which never pays good compared to the underground jobs doing kills and moving drugs to different parts of the world. This game in a way could teach society how to get around the system and make it big with out ever getting a job, but of course it takes risks. This game results in lots of money, fast cars, boats, mansions, everything you could ever want in the materialistic world that we are all submerged in.

asterios polyp

Graphic novels were not a big part of my generation, my generation grew up watching the horrors of television. This novel to me was about how humans have duality in their nature. The main character asterios polyp is the kinda person that everyone pretends to like but is secretly unliked by anyone. This book calls for people to argue against it and at the same time examine it and understand the sense of style in which the author intended. There are a lot of allusions in this novel that relate to history in abstraction and dichotomy in art.

Joel peter witkin

I choose these because they are real this artist uses dead bodies in his photography and mutilates them and puts them together in still lives of dead lives. this artist is now residing in mexico because of the laws in america. I think these show how sensitive humans are to death and decomposing back into the earth. this artist is not afraid to express what he sees no matter how morbid and disgusting it is, in the eyes of the beholder and these found their way being very popular in the photography world.

I choose to also do another director except modernized also

-Director 3 Movies-
Robert Rodriguez
One of my favorite directors is Robert Rodriguez because of his graphic nature and certain style of movie production. I saw the movies Sin City, Planet Terror and Once Upon A Time In Mexico. These are all action adventure movies with extreme graphic gore and thick hero plots usually dealing in futuristic worlds of disaster or violence. Sin City was filmed so uniquely and leaves the view at the edge of the seat, same with Mexico and Planet Terror. Planet Terror similar to Sin City and Mexico have very unique characters where each has their own heroic feature. The action scenes in this directors movies are all done with very amazing lighting and great fighting choreography. The scene in Planet Terror of the main character with the butterfly knifes running through the hospital to me takes the cake as the best action scene in all of the three movies. In all of there movies there is under plot of romance where the main character that is fighting for his life has a love life on his side which they all end up having to protect the girl which makes them all look “bad ass”.  This also shows in his newer film “Predators” where he continues off the series but in his own vision. Very similar to what happened in the movie From Dust till Dawn were Quentin Tarantino gave up on the end of the movie and gave it to Rodriguez to finish with his complete mind boggling mutant stripper zombies attacking everyone that some how ended up in the strip club that day for the monster feast trick. Robert Rodriguez is a very unique director and many say it is because of how he gets super involved with all the aspects in the movie. They crew of his movies says that he will grab the camera or work the audio equipment earning him the nick name “one-man film crew”.  One of his secrets that follows in all of his movies is his power to be able to shock the view with vulgar and graphic situations that bring all attention the screen and pulls peoples attentions into the action thriller plots. Similar to Tarantino Rodriguez has a great plot with the characters and that is very important with bringing them to life and making a person out of scripts and actors. In almost all of his movies you can find a similar theme of bad ass warrior of life struggling against the system whether it is an evil villain or even just people you would never expect and the shock and mystery is why I choose to write about Robert Rodriguez.

Andrei Tarkovsky

The first movie from this director I watched was Andrei Rublev, which was not what I expected it was a medieval setting in Russia. This movie has a lot of symbols in it like the horse and the pond and seems like it would be very accurate depicting the poverty scene in Russia. Which is also shown in the other movie I watched Andrei Rublev where people are constantly living in what seems like war torn landscapes from the abandoned industrialized Russia. In this movie there is a lot of imagery to soak in with very quiet subtle noises that kept the attention very strong with the presented scene. The movie Solaris that follows this directors vision of intense visualizations of the moment by not being shy with the scene he has created and gives the view the time it takes to soak in the environment and get an actual feeling of what is going on in the movie and gives off the right mood for these types of movies. How visual and creepy the modern world would have thought to be like. Very much like Stalker, Solaris has the long visual pauses with very low-key dialog for epic moments instead of getting all heated up the characters are almost in a constant state of shock. The scenes in Stalker of the ally way are amazingly lighten up much like every other scene. A viewer gains the most information on the characters by the slightest movements they make and how they react on their alone time or in time of travel when the characters are at the state of ponder and all giving out looks in their eyes that shows their inner self. Many of Andrei’s movies go with the theme of change and end of a life. In these movies it felt like all these people

Lolita

Lolita

I want to start off my paper with a quote from p.215 “All of a sudden I noticed that he had noticed that I did not seem to have noticed Chum protruding from beneath the other corner of the chest. We fell to wrestling again. We rolled all over the floor, in each other's arms, like two huge helpless children. He was naked and goatish under his robe, and I felt suffocated as he rolled over me. I rolled over him. We rolled over me. They rolled over him. We rolled over us.” This to me explains the emotions and awkward moments that make this novel known as an erotic novel. The social standards and pushed very hard during this whole book by showing the Lolita growing up from being just a little girl in an non social standard kind of way.
This is my favorite quote in the book in the opening chapter. “You have to be an artist and a madman, a creature of infinite melancholy, with a bubble of hot poison in your loins and a super-voluptuous flame aglow in your subtle spine (oh, how you have to cringe and hide!), in order to discern at once, by ineffable signs—the slightly feline outline of a cheekbone, the slenderness of a downy limb, and other indices which despair and shame and tears of tenderness forbid me to tabulate—the deadly little demon among the wholesome children; she stands unrecognized by them and unconscious herself of her fantastic power.” This shows how individualistic this girl is probably because of the parents death and other instances but opens the story up for a great character.

Day of the locust

Day of the locust
Aurhor from America known as Nathanael West wrote a story about a man in Hollywood that gets the true experience of life. The main character’s name is Tod Hackett who is an costume designer in Hollywood. He encounters many people in this novel like this girl he falls in love with named Fay Greener. He also meets a man named Homer Simpson  who is a business man that gets used and taken advantage of during the story. There is also a Mexican who fights chickens and is has a lot of personality for his character. Another top character would be a cowboy double that has a nice place in known part in Hollywood. The Mexican was the sidekick to the cowboy. To me this is a bunch of unordinary people from hollywood that lives crash because of life experiences and create a life scenerio style plot for this novel. This unordinary novel ends in a disaster riot at the first showing of the movie at its premiere.
